Basically, you'll put on a super hot paper gown and someone will look at every mole on your entire body.
I have skin cancer in my family and I had 3 biopsied....and only one came back as "slightly abnormal" and I'm keeping an eye on it.
So don't think "I have no family history so I'm in the clear." Not necessarily.
Have you ever had a blistering sunburn? Do you have blue or green eyes? Red or blonde hair? Or any of the risk factors listed?
Yes? Go to the dermatologist.
No? Go to the dermatologist.
If your insurance covers your visit there is NO reason to not go. It's a quick visit for peace of mind. Skin cancer is one of those HIGHLY survivable cancers because it's easy to catch early.
