Bout Of Books 11 Wrap Up

8/25/2014

This was a blast. I'm really glad I participated!

Over the course of the week, I read 6 books.

SIX.

Six. Whole. Books.

AND I parented.

Okay, I didn't clean much. But I parented.

The books I read will have their own reviews coming soon. Be sure and check the "Review Section" for those.

I read:
- Cinder and Scarlet (Book 1 and 2 of the Lunar Chronicles)
- Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children
- The Devil Stood Up
- Fable (Book 1 of the Lorn Prophecy)
- Splintered

Overall, I enjoyed everything I read. I didn't *love* Miss P. But the others were fantastic.

And now...I'm actually approaching reading burn out. But not enough to stop reading.

Bout of Books 11 Day Five

8/23/2014

Day FIVE of the read-a-thon closed out yesterday.

And with it, another book!

Seriously go pick up "Fable - Book 1 of the Lorn Prophecy." It's so awesome. If it got made into a major motion picture I'd be all too happy.

Today I'll be picking up "Scarlet." The goal is to finish that one today and start in on "Splintered" so I can finish it tomorrow.

I have errands to run later today (human and kitty food) and church stuff tomorrow.

Bout of Books 11 DAY FOUR

I'm approaching burn out. It was bound to happen.

I also, surprisingly, forgot to pack my Kindle when I left the house yesterday.

I took the kids to the park and WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT the library is right there. So I picked up "Scarlet" and "Splintered." I'm excited.

Today I'm reading Fable ~ Book 1 of the Lorn Prophecy. I think you'd consider this an indie novel. I'm pretty pumped because I know one of the co-authors. Like, I was friends with her daughter in gradeschool and she ran an after school group I was part of! It's exciting!

It's over 400 Kindle pages. My GOAL is to finish by the end of the day.

That way I can finish Scarlet and Splintered this weekend.

Bout of Books 11.0 DAY THREE

I didn't do much reading yesterday. I was in a bad headspace and couldn't focus. I got a few pages in to "The Devil Stood Up" and it's going to be interesting.

My copy of "The Anything Box" arrived yesterday! It's funny to see "75 cents" on the cover when I actually paid like $7 for it. That's what happens when books go out of print, y'all. SO READ READ READ. Books tend to go out of print when demand goes down!

Picture
That book was my introduction into the world of Sci-Fi. I was given a brown bag FULL of random books and several were old school sci-fi books like that one. (Lots of Zenna Henderson and Ray Bradbury)

So if you get a chance, pick up some of her work. You may have to order it. But I SWEAR it's worth it. "The Anything Box" and "Holding Wonder" are short story collections. Some are really freaky! It's great!

Okay, moving on!

Because I don't have a lot of updates I'll do a quick recommendation post! This was an official Bout of Books Challenge as well.

And you all know I love giving recommendations!

If you liked Alice In Zombieland by Gena Showalter
Picture
Then you would probably enjoy Dollhouse by Anya Allyn

They're both in the YA genre. Each features a female protagonist that doubles as a strong heroine. There's enough supernatural/fantasy to qualify as paranormal but not so much that it's full of world building explanations.

I loved both. They aren't so similar that it's boring, no worries!

Until tomorrow! READ.

Bout Of Books 11.0 Day TWO

Day Two wrapped up last night.

I read Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children.

It was definitely a neat concept and the pictures were a fun addition. However, I was one of those people that didn't love it. I'm not sure if I'm going to read the next in the series...at least not right away.

I have two books on Kindle on my list right now. "The Devil Stood Up" and "Fable." I know both of the authors so there is a theme there.

I have a book on hold ready to pick up at the library. I have another that I requested last night so here's hoping it's ready soon.

I'm trying to avoid burn out.

It's hard. Which is SO WEIRD. I didn't used to experience reading burn out. I think screaming kids changes things....and the constant interruptions.

So today I'm reading "The Devil Stood Up" and we'll go from there! Happy Reading!

Bout Of Books 11.0 Day 1 Wrap Up

Quick post to get everything updated!

I went ahead and finished "Under The Dome" by Stephen King yesterday.

You should see my face as I type that...

I hate King. I was reminded why I hate him. He's a great author and writes quite well (duh) but I HATE reading his books. I'll explain more in another, specific, post.

I started AND FINISHED "Cinder" by Marissa Meyer as well.

It was a really fast and easy read.

I was also in the mood for something predictable after the Stephen King GUT PUNCH of a book. Ugh.

Today I begin "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children." It looks like a quick read too so I'll jump into "The Devil Stood Up" if I finish it.

If I finish my *goal books* before the end of the week I'll have to figure something out...

Bout of Books TBR

I haven't transferred everything from my previous laptop so I don't have all of my fun gifs for posts.

[Sad gif of some kind]

ANYWAY

I was going to do this as a video but, obviously, that isn't happening. The Read-A-Thon begins on Monday and I need to get my TBR out into the interwebs so....blog post it is.

I have a modest goal of 3 books for this upcoming week. I'm really hoping that I can get through them without having to put all of my shows on the back burner. (Gotta have my "Under The Dome" and "Pretty Little Liars" Facebook discussions!)

I'm reading one library book, one from my book haul, and one Kindle book. (In that order) I figured it was a good spread.

(if you click on any of the pictures they should take you to the Amazon pages)
Picture
My first read is "Cinder" by Marissa Meyer. I'd seen this book on many lists and on Goodreads and thought, "Cinderella as a cyborg? Um, no. No thank you." HOWEVER, everyone that's read it has enjoyed it so...I'm giving it a go.
Picture
This is one that I've wanted to pick up ever since I spied it on the shelf at Walmart. Apparently, it's been hit or miss. It's a "I really loved it" or "Meh, it didn't hold my attention" book. I got a few chapters in and have enjoyed that part so I'm hoping it's a trend.
Picture
Lastly, I'm reading something from my MASSIVE Kindle collection. I moved this one to the top for a couple of reasons.
1) I'm friends with the author on Facebook and she's super awesome.
2) It's being made into a movie! If you search the title on Facebook you'll get the page that tells you more.
Picture
It doesn't look like a lot...especially for those of you without kids. However, add homeschooling and general parenting? 3 is quite the goal!

Are you doing the Read-A-Thon? Let me know in the comments and gimme a link to your TBR!

Bout of Books Read-A-Thon

I'm such a loser. I accept that!

So I'm doing a read-a-thon. It's a week where you read as much as possible, as often as possible.

Basically, a typical week for me...

The official-ness for the "Bout of Books" read-a-thon is as follows:
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 18th and runs through Sunday, August 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team
Bout of Books
I don't have goals yet. I'll be doing a video of those so I can show you the books!

It'll be a blast! There will be challenges and lots of updates. I'll be doing a lot on YouTube so sure and subscribe to my tiny channel.

I'm excited. This will be my first official foray into the BookTube community!
